Police in Oyam district have launched an investigation into the theft of 14 computers stolen from Amaji Primary School by unknown thugs. The incident was reported a week ago, prompting the Assistant Resident District Commissioner, Patrick Ocen, to enforce the arrest of some school staff, including the headteacher, watchmen, cleaners, and teachers.
District Police Commander, Supretendant of Police Job Mutegeki, confirmed the arrests and revealed that the suspects’ files have been forwarded to the Resident State Attorney for legal redress. However, the suspects were released on police bond as the investigation continues.
The stolen computers were part of a donation of 20 computers from Sino Hydro Power, a company contracted for the construction of Karuma Hydropower station, according to Sam Paul Ogwang Alunyu, the LC3 chairperson of Kamdini Sub County.
Alfred Ocen, a parent and LC1 chairperson of Tenam cell in western ward at Kamdini town council, expressed suspicion that there was collusion among members of the school management committee and staff. However, James Acai, the chairperson of the School Management Committee, refuted this allegation, calling it baseless.
Efforts to obtain a comment from Richard Opito, the accused headteacher, were unsuccessful as our repeated phone calls went unanswered.
In a latest development, the Assistant RDC told this website that the district has called an emergency security meeting today at the school to address the escalating crime rate in the area. This meeting is expected to bring together stakeholders, including local leaders, security personnel, and community members, to discuss strategies for maintaining law and order.
