Apac – UPC Party President Jimmy Micheal Akena, who also doubles as the Lira City East Mp and son of the late UPC president Dr.Apollo Milton Obote, has declared his interest to vie for the president’s seat in the forthcoming elections.
Akena, who has camped in Apac district for his mobilization activities, on Saturday 9th September 2023 assured the electorates of West Nile region that his Party, Uganda Peoples Congress continues to eye the Presidential seat in the 2026 presidential election.
Akena, whose rally attracted all walks of life in the UPC Party, said that UPC land slide victory in the by-election in Oyam is a signal that the party is very strong, especially at the grass roots.

“We are united, no body is going to rig the votes of UPC in the coming elections,” he told gatherings in Apac district recently.
Adding: “Before I reached here, we went through our home in Akokoro where I told my leaders of UPC that when my life is over, I want to be buried in the feet of my father but I am not in hurry to go in to the ground, I want to be among those who will see Jesus when he returns.”

Akena implored the UPC Party members to work together and register as eligible voters for the forthcoming elections of 2026.
“I am ready to go through anything for the people of Uganda. As we prepare for the election, I together with the leaders of UPC shall move round the country to get ready for the people of Uganda ahead of the 2026 polls,” he said.
Akena said that UPC government brought development to the people of Uganda including good health care, good education and a decent living during the reign of his father late Milton Obote.
