Mbale Bugisu Clan Heads, from the 26 clans that constitute Inzu Ya Masaaba, are set to welcome President Yoweri Museveni to the Bamasaba land ahead of the inauguration ceremony of their new paramount chief, Umukhukha, commonly known as Umgii, slated for this October.
This was confirmed at Inzu Ya Masaaba offices in Malyuku, Mbale city by the Bugisu cultural institution spokesperson, Mr. Steven Masiga, after a meeting of the clan heads convened by the Umgii, Jude Mike Mudoma in preparation for the upcoming clan tournaments across Bugisu.
The foot ball tournament will be held in all areas of Bamasaba land in Uganda and Kenya as the Umgii’s tours the region beginning with Bududa, Manafwa and Namisndwa, then Sironko and Bulambuli. The tour will later continue to Mbale City and Mbale district ending in Bungoma Kenya where he will meet the Bamasaba of Kenya.
In Kenya, the key host of Umgii and his entourage will be the speaker of Parliament of Kenya Wetangula.
Mudoma takes on the reins having been gazetted by the government about 45 days ago.
Museveni attaches a lot of importance to Bamasaba land for personal and cultural reasons. He always recalled that during his formative military days when growing up, he began from Bugishu region and also has a lot of political allies in the Bugisu region than any other part of Uganda.
Recently, the president’s daughter patient Rwabwogo was here to retrack these heroic scenes.
Meanwhile, Mbale as host district, has also added extra structure to the Inzu Ya Masaaba which now act as an extension office and a resting place for Umgii.
The Umgii has meanwhile written to General Katumba Wamala, the minister of Works and Transport and to Dott services LTD to help with the rehabilitation of the Mutoto circular Road from Mbale state lodge to cultural site in Mutoto which is in deplorable state.
