Uganda Human Rights Commission Soroti Regional office has produced to court 15 cases of human rights violation.
The cases range from abuse of personnel liberty of suspects by Police, violation of Rights to life by Security agencies including Uganda Police, UPDF and Uganda Wild Life Authority (UWA).
Speaking to this website at Soroti Regional Offices on Monday Morning, Ms. Mariam Fauzat Wangadya revealed that the trial shall proceed for three days as the tribunal critically attends to each file for preferable justice.
“I am here in Soroti with my commissioners and legal officers for a three days hearing process of these 15 files, those found guilty shall have to face the law,”he said.
Adding, “I encourage the public to continue reporting more cases of Human Rights violation and provide evidences for prosecution of the offenders because we as the commission work with proof.”
Josephine Akello the Regional Manager Uganda Human Rights Commission Soroti Regional Office told media that the files consist of 12 cases of torture, 4 cases of personal liberty involving detention of suspects beyond 42 hours by Police and 2 cases where suspects were beaten to death in custody.
“We have 12 cases against Uganda Police, one against UPDF and one case against Uganda Wild life Authority.” she said
Akello further adds that they are in possession of a formal complaint filed by a section of Journalist in Teso Sub-region where they were tortured with their gadgets vandalized during the Bukedea L.C5 by – elections in June 2023, however they are gathering the evidences to make the file complete.
Public has continued facing abuse of human rights in various forms especially during political times where political actors and journalists remain a key target by the tormentors particularly the armed forces.
