Agago– The Deputy Resident District Commissioner of Agago district Suzan Akot on Wednesday recovered 70 pieces of iron sheets that were meant to be distributed to victims of the karamojong attacks.
Last month the office of the prime minister delivered 1,200 pieces of iron sheets to be distributed to at least 40 families in the areas of Lira Kato, Omiya Pachwa, Adilang town council, wol sub county,and Adilang sub county, and Each of the beneficiaries was meant to receive 30 pieces of iron sheets.
However, Susan Moro Akot, the deputy resident district commissioner for Agago district informed this website that she received a a complain from the locals of Adilang sub county that 90 pieces of their iron sheets were being secretly kept in the house of one Charles Dickens Olanya, a resident of Lala central ward.
“Such information made me to raise suspicion and stormed into the said home with company of Police and some of the area leaders where we recovered 70 pieces of Iron sheets out of the 90 that were earlier released”, she said.
We recovered 70 out out of 90 pieces of iron sheets” she added.
Olanya the suspect revealed to security operatives that the 90 iron sheets were delivered to his home by Patrick Odoch, the LC.1 of Lawireng Kamoro village in Adilang sub county together his secretary Robin Ojok who asked him to temporarily keep them in his house without disclosing to anyone.
” before giving me to keep the 70 iron sheets, 20 iron sheets were given to Mr Santo San Ongom, the Lciii of Adilang town council, while 20 were to be given to Lc.iii of Adilang sub county,Mohamed Okwir,who was yet to collect them” he added.
He further explained that he did not know whether the iron sheets were stolen until his brother fell a victim of the karamojong attacks and equally missed his iron sheets too.
Ms. Akot the Agago deputy resident commissioner after recovering Iron sheets warned the local leaders against corruption and added that those involved in this scandal shall face the hands of the law as police already take up the matter.
Recently, a total number of 30 ministers and members of parliament were listed and others charged for being involved into the Karamoja Iron sheet scandal.
President Yoweri Museveni has commonly addressed the nation of his zero tolerance to corruption.
