Arua City: Security operatives, led by the Deputy Resident City Commissioner (RCC) for Central Division Arua City, Mr. Ezama Ham Mizamil, alongside a technical team headed by Health Inspector Mr. Amaga Mike Solomon, have issued strong warnings to a family over poor hygiene practices.
This action followed complaints from community members in Odrokodroa Cell, Kenya Ward. In a recent operation, 40 members of an extended family were given a one-week deadline to construct a latrine after one of them, Onzima Saffi, was arrested for defecating in a polythene bag, commonly known as a “kavera,” and disposing of it in the neighborhood at night.
According to one of the wives in this family, their latrine was demolished months ago by Wahabu Asirafu during a quarrel and physical altercation with another family member.
During the inspection of the household, several instances of open defecation were found, including feces tied in kaveras and scattered around the compound and nearby areas.
The LC1 Chairman for Odrokodroa Cell, Mr. Taban Muzamil, expressed frustration over the family’s refusal to comply with both his and the LC2’s authority by failing to construct a new latrine.
Health Inspector Mr. Amaga Mike Solomon issued a two-day ultimatum for the family to build a new latrine, directing that, in the meantime, the adult family members should use their neighbors’ latrines.
Mr. Ezama Ham Mizamil, the Deputy RCC for Central Division, expressed disbelief that a household of 40 people had gone months without a proper toilet. He tasked the health inspector with closely monitoring the latrine construction process and vowed to lock the household’s doors if they fail to comply with the issued directives.
