Kotido – The District Internal Security Officer (DISO) of Kotido has urged the Karachunas (youth) to resist being overtaken by barbaric societal trends, such as cattle rustling, and instead focus on goals that will transform them into responsible citizens.
Lt. Aisu David made these statements during an interview in his office at the Municipality Headquarters.
He expressed concerns that the youth are embracing a culture that misguides their minds, diverting their focus from essential cultural values and educational goals.
He emphasized the need for the youth in Karamoja and the country as a whole to fight against poverty and ignorance, and to live faithfully.
He took the opportunity to advise parents to introduce their children to formal education, which includes discipline, domestic work, respect for others, and decent dressing, to help them grow responsibly.
“Parents should introduce their children to formal education that includes, among others, discipline, domestic work, respect for others, decent dressing, and other values that will help them grow responsibly,” Aisu advised.
Additionally, Lt. Aisu encouraged the youth to set future goals and to heed the guidance of security operatives, parents, teachers, and church leaders.
He highlighted the importance of taking advantage of government programs such as the Parish Development Model and Emyooga, which are designed to alleviate poverty among Ugandans.
“I advise all young people to look out for the different government programs and take advantage of existing opportunities such as the Parish Development Model, Emyooga, and others meant to lift Ugandans, particularly young people, out of poverty,” said Lt. Aisu.
Beyond his advocacy for youth development, Lt. Aisu is actively involved in improving livelihoods and pacifying the Karamoja region to sustain peace.
He has organized several integrated activities, notably a dialogue with the Kotido Boda Boda Association in a quest for long-lasting peace.
These initiatives, supported by Lt. Aisu, aim to address the significant insecurity challenges and improve the livelihoods of the community living in Kotido District.
