In an achievement for the Lake Kyoga Ferry Project, two marine vessels, BKK1 and BBK2, have successfully passed their floating tests on Lake Kyoga. This milestone marks a crucial step toward the completion of a transportation initiative designed to enhance connectivity and boost economic opportunities in the region.
The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) confirmed the success, acknowledging the relentless efforts of its technical teams in ensuring the vessels’ safety and functionality. With the floating tests complete, the focus now shifts to preparing the ferries for full-scale operations.
Once operational, the ferries are expected to carry a combined total of 600 passengers and 35 vehicles per trip, significantly reducing travel times for residents and businesses around the lake. This development will not only improve transportation but also open up new avenues for economic growth in the region.
The Lake Kyoga Ferry Project is a testament to UNRA’s dedication to improving Uganda’s transportation infrastructure. For the communities surrounding Lake Kyoga, who have long struggled with the challenges posed by the lake’s waters, the project promises to provide a safer, more efficient, and reliable means of transport.
As the project nears completion, residents and businesses alike are looking forward to a future of improved connectivity, which will foster development and promote regional prosperity.
