The police in Arua City have so far arrested two highway robbery thieves as suspects in connection with items stolen from California Bus Company.
It’s said that, between the months of July to 4-September-2024, items costing more than 50 million Ugandan shillings were stolen at night when the California Bus enroute from Kampala to Arua was driving on a slow speed due to the gullies on the long-steeped road around Enzeva in Arua District.
Anziku Vincent, a trader who lost goods worth 15 million shillings and later on he identified it in shops operated by some of the thieves, said, the business he has been operating is the only source of survival for orphans his deceased parents left.
He appealed for support and recovery of his properties so that their orphaned home doesn’t suffer a lot
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ochama Denis who is the Regional Police Commander for WestNile region, upon confirming arrest of some of the suspects, decried the sorrow state of the road along that stretch, adding that, some of the robbers are said to be digging pits on the road in order to slow down the speed of vehicles on that hilly road of enzeva.
The RPC blamed the local leaders for concealing the information pertaining to the criminals robbing people in Enzeva, Arua.
Our efforts to get a comment from California Bus Company officials regarding this case, were futile as the manager for the company is yet sick.
Year in, year out, the potholed-spots on the main road from Bondo in Arivu Sub-county to dubai trading center in Ajia Sub-county along Kampala – Arua road have been source of security risks for passengers, buses and trailers whose goods often get stolen because of the steeps and gullies which reduce the speeds of the vehicles.
