Bukedea: A 27-year-old woman, Apolot Gladys, was allegedly murdered by her former partner, Ojangole David, also known as Rasta.
According to Edison Obukulem, the East Kyoga Police spokesperson, the incident occurred on September 17, 2024, at around 8:00 pm in Tank Cell, Kide Ward.
Gladys and Ojangole had a complicated history, having parted ways earlier this year due to family misunderstandings. However, Gladys recently returned and resumed living with Ojangole. On the fateful night, Ojangole reportedly found Gladys with another man in a goat shelter near their rented room. The other man managed to escape, but Ojangole brutally assaulted Gladys, leaving her unconscious.
Neighbors informed the area chairperson, Odeke, who instructed Ojangole to seek medical attention for Gladys. Instead, Ojangole fled, abandoning her in the room. The next morning, neighbors checked on Gladys and found her dead. The chairperson then notified the police.
Ojangole is currently on the run, and no arrests have been made. Police are urging the community to report any information regarding his whereabouts. The body of the deceased has been taken to Bukedea HC IV Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Obukulem emphasized, “We call upon the community to desist from all forms of violence and to report their issues to the authorities. We are working tirelessly to ensure justice for the victim’s family.”
This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of domestic violence.
Earlier this week, the body of a 25-year-old woman was discovered in a swamp in what the police said was an alleged rape followed by murder. Her 54-year-old lover was arrested in connection with the crime. There has been a recent spate of killings in the Serere area, all targeting women. These incidents are reportedly linked to domestic misunderstandings and infidelity in families.
