In a twist more unexpected than a boda-boda ride without brakes, the political winds of Uganda just received a divine update. General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the son of Uganda’s political titan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has announced that he will not be on the 2026 ballot.
The earth-shaking announcement, which hit the internet like a thunderbolt this morning on X (formerly Twitter), has left many of his die-hard supporters in dismay. Having poured their hopes, prayers and hope of a Muhoozi presidency, this unexpected twist has them scratching their heads. With some are questioning their life decisions: “Did I really get that Muhoozi tattoo for nothing?” one anonymous supporter whispered under his breath.
But in the world of politics, it’s always chess, never checkers. Some see this declaration as the ultimate act of loyalty to his father, the reigning Generalissimo himself President Museveni. Is this move the ultimate kingmaker move? Has Muhoozi simply cleared the runway for his father’s 7th term like a well-coordinated airstrike?
Social media exploded like a kyeyo worker receiving mobile money from home. One Patriotic League Member posted: “We are not sad, we are MORE focused. The father has returned to complete the work. The son will rise again.” The die-hard Muhoozi Army seems split, with some calling it a betrayal and others seeing it as an act of biblical-level obedience.
Meanwhile, President Museveni probably just dusted off his combat boots. The now 80 year old general now steps back into the ring, his son’s loyal troops potentially transferring their trust back to the man who has seen it all, from the bushes of the 80’s to the Towers of today.
But as the political winds blow in Uganda, one question lingers: Where does this leave “PLU” (People Like Us)? They may have lost a candidate, but with the Museveni-Muhoozi dynamic still in play, this could be the ultimate long game. Maybe the son will return stronger after his holy hiatus. After all, “If God is on our side, who can be against us?”
Stay tuned as we will keep you posted as the saga has only just begun
