Odrek Rwabwogo, Chairman of the Exports and Industrial Advisory Development Committee and President Museveni’s son-in-law, has distanced himself from a group calling themselves the ‘Disciples of Odrek Rwabwogo’. This group has been engaged in a social media spat with supporters of Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the President’s son. The clashes, primarily over accusations hurled at Muhoozi, have sparked speculation of a deeper rift within the ruling family.
Rwabwogo stated that he denounced this group in October 2021, through both video and written communication, noting their behavior reflected a lack of discipline and a misunderstanding of the Movement’s ideology. He clarified that the group, led by Yosia Mugaaju, acts without his approval and should be ignored.
The recent tensions escalated after Muhoozi called Rwabwogo the “biggest thief in Uganda,” prompting the ‘Disciples’ to retaliate, describing Muhoozi as an “irrational coward” with a dangerous sense of entitlement. They also addressed a letter to President Museveni, urging him to intervene against Muhoozi, claiming his remarks threatened Uganda’s democratic order and stability.
Rwabwogo asserted that he doesn’t need spokespeople or third-party messages, emphasizing that such inflammatory social media exchanges only create unnecessary resentment and distract from important national work. He attributed this group’s actions to a failure in ideological education and the decline of disciplined public behavior in the Movement.
