Kaberamaido District has launched a door-to-door vaccination campaign aimed at vaccinating over 3,676 children under the age of four years and eleven months. The launch took place at Clever’s Origin Nursery and Primary School. According to the District Health Officer, Mr. Bua Bendard, the district received 39,900 doses of vaccines for the exercise, all of which are approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) and provided for free.
Mr. Bendard also stated that 76 health workers have been assigned to administer the vaccines at various locations such as schools, churches, markets, and homes. Each health worker is expected to vaccinate 125 children per day in order to meet the target within the four-day campaign. The health workers will even work on Sundays to ensure the campaign’s success. He urged parents to allow their children to be vaccinated, emphasizing that Uganda has already eradicated polio and is committed to remaining polio-free.
Mr. Victor Rex Ekesu, the District Chairperson, highlighted the government’s commitment to the well-being of children, noting that they are the future leaders of the country and need special care.
The Resident District Commissioner, Mr. Lino Lotem, assured his office’s full support for the campaign. He mentioned that they are prepared to address any resistance from churches or groups that oppose the vaccination exercise, ensuring that the campaign reaches its target successfully.
