The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission, led by Dr. Tanga Odoi, has officially launched the nomination process for candidates seeking the party flag in the upcoming Kisoro District Woman Member of Parliament by-election. This by-election, scheduled for November, will fill the seat left vacant by the late Hon. Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi, who also served as State Minister for Defense.
The three-day nomination process commenced with the endorsement of five aspirants at the NRM Electoral Commission offices, located at Plot 13 Kyandondo Road, Nakasero. The nominated candidates are Ngabirano, Dushine Sylvia, Igiraneza Winfred Faith, Kabagenyi Rose, and Irankunda Jemimah.
Dr. Tanga Odoi expressed confidence in the party’s chances, stating, “The NRM will retain the Kisoro seat because the electorate strongly supports the party, and we do not foresee any significant competition once our flag bearer is selected.” He reiterated the commission’s commitment to a transparent and impartial process, emphasizing that no one, including party leaders, will be allowed to interfere.
“Any attempts to sway the results outside of established procedures will be firmly resisted,” Dr. Odoi affirmed.
The commission also cautioned candidates against engaging in divisive actions or violence, warning that such behavior could lead to disqualification. Now that the mourning period for Hon. Nyirabashitsi has ended, the focus has shifted to selecting a candidate who will take Kisoro forward. Dr. Odoi urged aspirants to focus on their plans for the community, rather than dwelling on past events.
