Maracha District – Maracha Constituency received financial support from MP aspirant Mr. Uhuru Nelson to help them organize the upcoming Independence Day celebrations. Mr. Nelson, running on the NRM Party ticket for the Maracha Constituency MP seat in the 2026 elections, responded to requests from the sub-counties for donations. Each sub-county received 200,000 Ugandan shillings to support their preparations for Independence Day.
In Ovujo Town Council, Town Clerk Mr. Amandu Onesmus Tokoson expressed his appreciation to Mr. Uhuru Nelson and the current Maracha District Woman MP, Hon. Driwaru Jennifer, for their financial contributions. He noted that the Central Organizing Committee (COC) is finalizing preparations for the celebrations, scheduled for 9th October 2024, in Ovujo Town Council.
Similarly, Adrole Swabir, Chairman of the Central Organizing Committee in Agaii Town Council, appealed to the public for additional financial support to ensure the success of the event. Meanwhile, Hon. Candia Joel, LC3 Chairman for Oluvu Sub-county, revealed that their sub-county has a budget of 5 million shillings allocated for the celebrations.
In Obiba Sub-county, Central Organizing Committee Chairman Aguta Job also expressed gratitude for the financial assistance from Mr. Nelson, praising his contribution to the community’s efforts to celebrate Independence Day.
Mr. Uhuru Nelson, who shares his birthday with Uganda’s Independence Day on 9th October, spoke at the event using a parable. He referenced the biblical story of Cain and Abel, saying both brothers were hardworking, but when it came to offering sacrifices, Abel was wise and careful in his offerings to God. His message emphasized the importance of giving back and contributing meaningfully to one’s community.
As the sub-counties prepare for the national celebration, the financial support from Mr. Nelson and others is expected to make a significant impact, ensuring that the festivities are well-organized and memorable.
