Katakwi, Uganda – In a heartfelt address, Katakwi District LC5 Chairperson Hon Omolo Geoffrey praised Vice President Jessica Rose Alupo for her unwavering dedication to improving education in the region.
During a recent meeting with teachers, Hon Geoffrey warmly welcomed Vice President Alupo, honorable members of parliament, and other dignitaries, expressing profound gratitude for their presence.
“Your Excellency, your willingness to engage with teachers personally reflects a deep appreciation for their work and the challenges they face,” Hon Geoffrey said. “This gesture builds trust and fosters a stronger connection between teachers and leadership.”
He commended the Vice President’s efforts in Katakwi, citing food support during examinations, provision of infrastructure such as iron sheets, sponsorship of vulnerable children, construction of new seed schools, and personal commitment to attracting support from her networks.
Hon Geoffrey also addressed the teachers, urging them to remain optimistic and professional despite challenges. “Let us continue to perform our duties with diligence and professionalism,” he emphasized. “Avoid situations that may lead to personal embarrassment, particularly those involving young girls. Let us upgrade our skills and stay ahead of the changes, especially with the introduction of the new lower secondary curriculum.”
The chairperson raised concerns about the new education policy, specifically the closure of teacher training institutions, potentially leading to primary school teacher shortages, and misunderstandings surrounding compulsory free education, leading some parents to abdicate responsibility for their children’s education.
Hon Geoffrey concluded by emphasizing the progress made in the district and the need for continued support and engagement for greater achievements in education. “We have made good progress as a district, despite significant challenges,” he said. “Together, with your support, we will strive for even greater achievements in the education sector.”
Teachers and officials in attendance praised Hon Geoffrey’s speech, citing its emphasis on teacher welfare, policy concerns, and collaboration. The event reinforced the importance of stakeholder engagement in shaping Uganda’s education sector.
