Katakwi, Uganda – A speeding vehicle carrying cattle has knocked down and killed Mzei Oodo Iporotum Stephen, a retired teacher from Teso College Aloet, in Angobo, Katakwi District on Friday 18th 2024.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:00 PM. Police have arrived at the scene and investigations are ongoing.
According to eyewitnesses, Mr. Oodo was returning home from Ocorimongin weekly Market when the accident occurred. He was riding his motorcycle and turning to enter his residence when the vehicle, headed towards Karamoja, struck him.
Mzei Oodo, a respected community leader, dedicated his life to educating generations of students. His sudden passing has sent shockwaves through the community.
Geoffrey Omolo, LCV Chairperson for Katakwi District and a teacher by profession, expressed deep remorse over the tragic loss. “This is a significant loss, as Mr. Oodo was a highly respected Geography teacher who had recently retired. His sudden passing comes as a shock,” Omolo said.
Omolo extended his heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family, emphasizing the importance of road safety. “This tragedy serves as a reminder for both riders and drivers to exercise caution and be conscious of safety on the roads.”
“Road accidents are becoming all too common in our district. We urge drivers to exercise caution,” said Omolo.
Condolence messages are pouring in on social media, with colleagues and community members expressing shock and sadness.
Police urge witnesses to come forward as investigations continue.
