Napak, Uganda – Hundreds of households in Napak District’s Apeitolim Sub-County have been displaced after devastating floods swept through the area, destroying homes, crops, and sanitation facilities.
The disaster, triggered by heavy rainfall yesterday, has left many families without shelter, food, or access to basic sanitation facilities. The affected parishes include Achukudu, Arengepua, Aolio Alungar, Aputon, Akobokobot, and Arerengepuwa.
Kodet Emmanuel, Personal Assistant to Napak District Woman MP Nakut Faith, expressed concern over the dire situation. “The floods have left many families without shelter, food, or access to basic sanitation facilities. We urge the government and humanitarian organizations to provide emergency assistance,” Emmanuel said.
Local authorities are conducting a joint assessment to determine the extent of the damage.
Climate experts warn that floods are becoming more frequent and intense due to climate change, emphasizing the need for climate-resilient infrastructure and disaster preparedness.
The situation remains alarming, with hundreds of households displaced and in dire need of assistance.
Emergency shelter, food, medical assistance, sanitation facilities, and agricultural support are urgently needed.
