Sironko, Uganda – Two top officials in Sironko District have been arrested and detained at Busulani Police Post over allegations of misappropriating Parish Development Model (PDM) funds.
Mr. Wofuma Richard, Chairperson of the SACCO, and Nabuduwa Ketty, Bukyabi Subcounty Parish Chief, were arrested on October 15, 2024, following a directive by Mr. Wonambwa Allan, Assistant Resident District Commissioner, and Mr. Nabimanya Robert, DISO Sironko.
According to Mr. Chemoges Frederick, OC Station Busulani Police Post, the duo was arrested after it was discovered that Mr. Wofuma Richard had withdrawn 88,650,000 shillings from the subcounty account without records of payment to individuals.
Dr. Okori Patrick, Head of Production Department, condemned the act, stating that guidelines prohibit the chairperson from withdrawing and distributing funds directly to beneficiaries.
After recovering the full amount, Mr. Wonambwa Allan handed over the funds to Nabuduwa Ketty to distribute to beneficiaries, emphasizing the importance of documenting the distribution process.
“The PDM funds allocated to Bukyabi Subcounty aim to increase household income,” Mr. Wonambwa stressed.
This incident highlights growing concerns over PDM fund mismanagement in various districts.
