The Kaberamaido District Police have confirmed the death of 38-year-old Opach Denis, a resident of Abok Village, Akwalakwa Parish, Kobulubulu Sub-county, following an alleged assault. According to the District Police Commander, SP David Otabong, the incident occurred on October 18, 2024, around 11:00 AM in Akar Village, Akwalakwa Parish. The case was reported by Olobo Richard, the Community Development Officer of Ochero Sub-county, who informed the police of an assault case.
Otabong said a team, including the Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO), was immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they found Opach Denis in critical condition but still alive. Efforts were made to transport him to Kaberamaido General Hospital using a tricycle motorcycle, but due to the lack of a proper vehicle, it was challenging to move him. Sadly, upon reaching the hospital ward, Denis was pronounced dead.
The police are currently holding a white pig at Kaberamaido Central Police Station, which was found at the scene. So far, no one has come forward to claim ownership of the animal. Otabong mentioned that the deceased had been previously associated with theft, although his friends defended his innocence. The incident is believed to have been a result of vigilante justice, and Otabong cautioned the public against taking the law into their own hands, as it hinders police investigations.
Otabong further advised the youth to avoid criminal activities and instead engage in government programs like the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga to improve their livelihoods. The case has been registered under SD REF.30/18/10/2024 at Kaberamaido Central Police Station.
