The Vice President Mej. Rtd. Jessica Rose Alupo has launched the Olilim piped water project constructed by Welt Hunger, the American non – government organization.
The innovation comes after communities grappled with the problem of water crisis foe a longer period of time say the locals.
“In Katakwi district, the government’s effort in ensuring water coverage across the 109 parishes in 20 Sub – Counties, is inequitable however, the development Partners have come in to rescue the vulnerable communities by rapidly constructing and rehabilitating boreholes in order to secure the clean water for households”n said Mr. Moses Iteit the LC III Chairman Olupe Sub – County.
Eseza Lydia Apio the Katakwi district Water officer said that with mega funds sent by government, the district had been grappling with a huge water crisis as women could trek from as far as six kilometers in search of clean water.
She said, “The contribution by non- government Organizations like Welt Hunger Hilfe, according to her, has expedited the water coverage from previously below 40% up to 78% current standing”.
On Thursday, Welt Hunger Hilfer handed over to the government a multi – Billion piped water facility constructed in Olilim town board in Palam Sib – County in Katakwi where the Vice president Jessica Rose Alupo officiated the commissioning and the launch.
According to Harriet Agemo the Project Manager, Olilim Piped water project shall generate over 800,000 litres of water per day and shall serve more than 200 homes including some parts of Olilim Miltary training wing.
“The water piped project comes after the organization constructed 54 boreholes and rehabilitated 134 boreholes in the financial year 2022/2023 which coasted the organization a tune of shs. exceeding 3,5 Billion”.
The Vice President therefore warned the officials from the water authorities to stop hiking the water tariffs especially in rural communities.
Alupo expressed her distress revealing that she had received several reports of extortion by those in authority.
