AMURIA.This is part of the 1 billion road rehabilitation project funded by ministry of Works and Transport to improve road infrastructure in each district.
The money was sent to the district accounts during the first and second quarter releases, said the District Engineer, Moses Opolot.
The other 500 million is expected to be sent in third and fourth quarters as part of government’s effort to improve road infrastructure in the country.
Opolot says the work plan encompasses 15 road sections to be repaired in phases totaling to 239.5km.
Was launched on Tuesday by Lilian Eyal, the Resident District Commissioner Amuria at Conner Clerk Trading Centre in Akeriu Sub County witnessed by hundreds of residents recently.
“The roads are strategic for market access, security and development of the upcoming centres across the district. They will properly Iink you. Therefore I urge communities to embrace them for development but not for centres where people only drink maruwa,” said RDC Eyal while launching the work.
Some of the roads to be rehabilitated in the first phase include, Orungo-Moruinera- Akeriu Rd, Orungo Morungatuny-Apopopong-Obalanga Rd and Conner Olele-Awelu-Apuret Rd among others.
Moses Emabu, the district chairperson noted that the work would be implemented expeditiously because of the poor status of the roads in the district.
“Engineer now that we have the opportunity of these funds, let’s utilize them effectively and efficiently, for our people to realize a change,” said Emabu.
He added that community should be able to reap immediate benefits such as taking pregnant mothers to Olilim Health Centre IV, or access market with ease.
