Soroti High court has given the Attorney general and Soroti City Council a deadline of a fortnight to file their defense to the case filed by the complainant, council Joshua Okello who wants the City Council slapped with a charge of Ushs. 800 Million for being negligent to ensure trade order.
The respondents are accused of contempt of court orders in miscellaneous application No. 13 of 2022 Okello Vs Attorney General and Soroti City Council.
On 4th April 2023, Soroti High Court made a ruling and orders which among others quashed the decision on Soroti City council, Court considered Council Okello Joshua and his application for orders and declarations which the City Council have not implemented it hence a contempt.
While appearing before the Soroti High Court Registrar Ntalo Nasulu Husein yesterday, the legal representative of the respondents had no sufficient defense to the application hence requested to be given 14 days to respond.
According to the Lawyer Joshua Okello, Soroti City council has become adamant in regulating the buses and trucks from parking along the main street hence causing more accidents and deaths.
