The pronouncement by the incumbent Soroti City – East Division Legislator Herbert Edmund Ariko of his deliberate move to quit the urban politics has jumbled the waves as the NRM Secretariat intensely knock heads on who should feet his shoes to face off the popular FDC’s Moses Okia Attan in the forthcoming elections.
Ariko in December 2023 voiced his mind on the frustrating political experience at the city, citing that the electorates have completely ignored him despite his works as MP.
According to him, he is left with no other option other than dumping the Soroti City East politics and turning his mind to Gweri county, were he claims is his ancestral home.
The scenario seemingly sets the picture for the FDC’s soul candidature as the embattled Moses Okia Attan gainfully dominates the popular vote as of now.
According to information from an inside source, the debate on whom the party should front to face Attan Okia is intensely on within the NRM house.
One of the names fronted in a high profile meeting according to the source is the Sports Minister Peter Ogwang, also the Ngariam County legislator who is the blue eye to the speaker Rt. Hon. Anita Among.
In a phone call with the Speaker, it is said that the Minister objected the move and termed it as one of the toughest decisions for him basing on the fact that he belives that Ngariam County still needs him the most.
A stone was therefore thrown to the NRM Vice Chairman, Flight Captain Mike Mukula who will go idle after his last term in service as the Vice Chairman of the region.
Basing on his popularity in the region and the outstanding profile, many of the stakeholders within the party have given a long tick that Mukula’s return to active politics will track down the prevalent opposition.
Although the former health Minister has not made any response. Mukula in 2015 quit active politics and turned his focus on his personal business and building the NRM party nationwide.
Capt. Mukula who is also the Vice Chairman of the party in Eastern region has been so influential in the politics of Teso.
Mukula joined politics in 1996 as Soroti Municipality Mp, he served as State Minister for health from 2001 to 2006.
In 2006, he lost the Municipality seat to FDC’S Willy Ekemu, but recaptured it in 2011.
