Osudo Primary School one of the oldest traditional Schools in the Eastern district of Kalaki, is facing shortage of classrooms amid high enrollment of pupils.
The headmaster, Mr. Ekanya Richard told the patriot that the School with the population of 1200 pupils has a deficit of 8 class rooms.
“The School faces a big challenge of classroom inadequacy to cater for this population explosion, the school requires 16 class rooms but currently has only 7, given a deficit of more 9 class rooms.”
Due to continued lack of class rooms, the Parents and teachers Association PTA raised a grass touched shade to accommodate the primary three and primary four pupils.
Mr. Ekanya said that the ministry of Education has kept promising to construct more class rooms and toilets for the school, but this hasn’t been done.
“The class rooms have ragged floors, very dusty, leaking roofs and poor furniture, the situation is making the pupils’ learning very difficult”.
On Wednesday 27 February, the State Minister for Teso affairs Dr. Clement Ongalo Obote visited the school and was welcomed with the embarrassing state of the school.
Ongalo was moved by a p4 pupil who presented a poem with a narrative of their misery at school.
He patrolled the school and indeed observed the nasty situation faced by a shool at his own constituency.
Ongalo therefore pledged to construct a two class room block for the school under the ministry of Teso affairs relief in the financial year 2024 – 2025.
“I am really sorry for the current state of the school, I pledge that through my ministry of Teso affairs, I will construct a two class room block for Osudo Primary School in the next financial year”.
“It should also be noted that schools all over the districts of Kalaki and Kaberamaido are faced with challenges of class rooms and teachers, I therefore interest the development partners and non-government organizations to stand with our communities,” ongalo said.
