A member of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) stationed with the 3rd division in Karamoja inadvertently wounded himself while on duty.
Private Serutokye Joram, aged 32, serving with the 35 Anti Air Craft Regiment at the 3rd Division headquarters in Moroto, sustained an injury to his jaw during a nighttime patrol in Moroto Municipality.
According to Maj Isaac Okware, Public Information Officer for the 3rd Division, Private Serutokye suffered an injury to the upper part of his right ear from a bullet.
The regrettable incident occurred on March 31, 2024, around 20:50 local time along the Kakolye-Katanga road while the patrol team was securing Moroto Municipality as part of their routine duties.
Maj Okware stated, “Joint investigations are underway to determine the cause of the accident.”
Following the incident, the injured soldier was promptly transported to Moroto Regional Referral Hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition and showing signs of improvement.
