In response to the recent unrest that shook Palabek settlement last week, authorities have taken swift action to restore peace and security in the area. Today,w
2nd April 2024, Osborn Oceng, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Lamwo, organized a meeting with refugee welfare committees from the 74 blocks within the settlement.
During the meeting, immediate steps were taken to address the security concerns plaguing the community. One of the key outcomes of the gathering was the formation of zonal security committees tasked with maintaining order and ensuring the safety of residents.
In his address to the committees, RDC Osborn Oceng emphasized the importance of cooperation and vigilance in safeguarding the settlement from further disturbances. He underscored the need for proactive measures to prevent future incidents and protect the well-being of all residents.
One specific directive issued by Oceng was the removal of extra pangas from homesteads across the settlement. Pangas, commonly used as agricultural tools, have unfortunately been utilized as weapons in recent altercations, prompting authorities to take action against their proliferation.
The formation of zonal security committees marks a significant step forward in the efforts to restore peace and stability to Palabek settlement. By empowering local stakeholders to take charge of security measures within their respective zones, authorities hope to create a safer environment for all residents.
As the community bands together to overcome the challenges it faces, there is optimism that the collective efforts of authorities and residents alike will lead to a brighter and more secure future for Palabek settlement.
