In a twist of fate, Jonathan Ekochu, the esteemed veteran radio personality, has now assumed the mantle of Senior Public Relations Officer at the Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Ltd (UETCL). With his appointment effective immediately, Ekochu’s journey from the airwaves to the power corridors promises an electrifying narrative.
Hailing from the prestigious Voice of Teso FM radio, where he orchestrated remarkable success under Capt Mike Mukula’s leadership, Ekochu’s magnetic presence then graced the airwaves of Mama Bukedea FM at the behest of Speaker Anita Among. However, his sojourn there was short-lived as SOCADIDO recognized his talents and swiftly enlisted him to breathe life into the flagging ‘Teso Na Ikoto Oni’ talkshow program.
Before his illustrious radio career, Ekochu honed his skills at Halcyon HS, where his agricultural acumen shone bright. Armed with a teaching certification from Kyambogo University, he seamlessly transitioned into the realm of journalism, earning accolades from the Institute of Advancement of Journalism in Johannesburg, South Africa.
But Ekochu’s journey doesn’t stop there. A two-time BBC, VOA, Farm Radio International trained fellow, he further solidified his expertise by graduating from TASO College of Health Sciences, specializing in HIV/AIDS counseling. His commitment to community welfare extends to his directorship at the Teso Kwanza Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering coffee cultivation in Teso.
Ekochu’s ascent to the role of PR luminary at UETCL places him in esteemed company, following in the footsteps of notable predecessors such as Chris Obore, Jamesbond Odongo, and Juma Hassan. As he embarks on this new chapter, Ekochu’s boundless energy, unwavering dedication, and diverse skill set are poised to illuminate the path ahead for Uganda’s energy sector.
