Pragmatic Help Achieving Social Empowerment (PHASE), a non-governmental organization established in Somalia in 2014 with funding from iDRF in Canada, is gearing up to provide essential relief to vulnerable communities in Maracha District.
In a planning meeting held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, stakeholders including politicians, religious leaders, and technocrats convened to strategize the distribution of food items to those in need. The consensus reached was to enlist the help of religious leaders from Catholic, Protestant, and Muslim faiths to identify and register vulnerable individuals.
Each registered beneficiary is set to receive a package containing 3.5kg of rice, 3.5kg of maize flour, 3.5kg of sugar, and half a litre of cooking oil. The distribution is scheduled to take place on Friday, April 5, 2024.
Deputy Khadi for Maracha town council, Avasi Al-hajji, expressed gratitude towards PHASE Organization and pledged to ensure integrity in the identification and distribution process. Similarly, Rev Denis Adoroti, the parish priest for Maracha town parish, emphasized transparency in registering beneficiaries.
Hon Osutre Godfrey, the Paranga Sub-county LC3 Chairman, advocated for inclusivity, urging that at least one beneficiary be identified in each village. Councilor Hon Asibazuyo Grace of Yivu and Alikua Sub-county underscored the importance of retaining PHASE Organization’s support due to the lack of NGO partners in the district.
Mr. Aduma Yeero Justus, the country director and Program and Technical manager for PHASE Organization, reiterated the organization’s commitment to non-discriminatory practices.
This upcoming food distribution marks the second phase of relief efforts by PHASE Organization, following their initial donation on May 1, 2023. With the collaboration of stakeholders and the dedication of PHASE Organization, vulnerable communities in Maracha District are poised to receive critical support during these challenging times.
