Kaberamaido District, In a startling development, a watchman responsible for safeguarding the district offices in Kaberamaido has been apprehended for allegedly breaking into the education sector. Mr. David Otabong, the District Police Commander for Kaberamaido Central police station, confirmed the arrest of Mr. Opucho Moses, 29, in connection with the incident.
The breach occurred sometime on Sunday night, according to authorities. On Monday morning, an office assistant, whose identity remains undisclosed at this time, arrived to find a broken window and two computers missing. The matter was promptly reported to the police, initiating an investigation.
Utilizing canine assistance, officers were led to the suspect’s residence in Ekinu cel Kaberamaido, where they discovered stolen items, including two computers and bags of immunization supplies.
Mr. Moses has been formally charged with office breaking and theft under CRB 117/2024. In his statement, he emphasized the challenges of guarding such a large premises alone, suggesting that it requires a team of at least 10 guards for effective security management.
In a twist, Mr. Moses revealed that he had not received his salary for the past eight months, citing familial responsibilities, particularly his children’s education, as pressing concerns. His situation sheds light on a wider issue within the workforce, with many employees facing delays in salary payments due to a recent cleanup exercise in the payroll conducted by the Ministry of Public Services.
As investigations continue, there are calls for addressing both the security protocols at the district offices and ensuring timely payment of wages to prevent similar incidents and alleviate financial burdens on employees.
