In a monumental event that has reverberated throughout Gweri County, Hon Herbert Edmund Ariko, a prominent figure in local politics, embarked on a historic visit to Aukot Health Centre II in Aukot Subcounty. The visit, laden with significance, not only showcased Ariko’s dedication to addressing pressing community issues but also underscored his burgeoning influence in the county’s political landscape.
During his visit, Hon Ariko conducted a comprehensive tour around Osuguro, a locality within the subcounty, which brought to light critical issues plaguing the community. Among the notable discoveries was the deplorable condition of Osuguro Community Nursery and Primary School, where pupils were found studying in makeshift structures made of papyrus reeds, highlighting the dire need for improved educational infrastructure.
Furthermore, despite recent efforts by Soroti District Local Government to construct a maternity ward at Aukot Health Centre II, deficiencies were evident as mothers who had just delivered were observed lying on the floor due to inadequate bedding facilities. This stark reality shed light on the urgent need for enhanced healthcare provisions in the area.
In response to these challenges, Hon Ariko outlined a series of actionable steps and solutions during his inaugural speech in Osuguro. Promising swift action, he pledged to secure support from the Ministry of Education and Sports to ensure that pupils of Osuguro Community Nursery and Primary School can sit their Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) in a permanent structure. Additionally, he kickstarted the construction of a two-classroom block with an initial donation of 10 million Ugandan shillings.
Moreover, recognizing the critical need for improved maternal healthcare, Hon Ariko committed to delivering essential supplies, including beds, mattresses, duvets, and baby cots, to Aukot Health Centre II by the end of the week. This initiative aims to provide mothers with a conducive environment for rest and treatment while ensuring the well-being of newborns.
In a bold move to alleviate financial burdens on parents, Hon Ariko announced his intention to cover Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) fees for all 478 Primary Seven candidates in Aukot Subcounty for the entire academic year.
The day culminated in the distribution of maize seeds to the community of Aukot, a crucial step in addressing food insecurity among the predominantly agricultural population. With 5 tonnes of maize seeds provided, Hon Ariko aims to empower households and combat poverty by bolstering agricultural productivity.
As Gweri County braces itself for an upcoming election, the presence of Hon Herbert Edmund Ariko on the political stage promises a paradigm shift. With his vision, dedication, and tangible actions, Ariko’s leadership offers hope for change and progress in the region.
