The Soroti East Division Deputy Resident City Commissioner Edwin Benesa has pointed fingers at Uganda’s main electricity distribution company – UMEME over frequent power blackout in the city.
Following the attempt by the unknown assailants to raid equity bank on Tuesday Morning, the commissioner strongly said that UMEME was part of the mess with their revolting action of shutting down electricity in the sensitive hours of the night.
Mr. Benesa said that it was UMEME that saved the assailants who attempted to raid Equity Bank.
“No sooner had the security operatives arrived at the bank premises to apprehend thieves who had already entered the bank than UMEME switched off electricity across the city”, he said.
Adding, “This action by UMEME disrupted our operation following the total darkness, it was risky, jeopardizing and disgusting for the men on uniform. This also gave the assailants an opportunity to escape”.
Although the management of UMEME has not released any statement on the coincidence, Mr. Benesa expressed his distress noting that power is key in security especially during the night operations.
