In the wake of recent flooding, Kapelebyong District finds itself grappling with extensive damage to its infrastructure, particularly its roads. Mr. Emmanuel Opio, the district’s Communications Officer, reports that the floods have ravaged at least 30% of the roads in the area, with the worst-hit being community roads in need of urgent attention.
Among the severely affected areas are Kobatum, Oburiateng, Ajesai, and Acanga in Acowa Sub-county, which currently lie submerged under water. Mr. Opio emphasizes the urgent need for intervention to address the deteriorating road conditions, which are hampering transportation and access for local residents.
Furthermore, the census update reveals significant challenges facing the enumeration process in Kapelebyong District. Out of an estimated population of 150,000 people, only 91,000 individuals have been enumerated so far, leaving a considerable balance of 59,000 yet to be counted. The situation is exacerbated by the difficulty in reaching remote areas, particularly the sub-counties of Achinga, Okungur, and Acowa, where bridges have been washed away by the rains, rendering them inaccessible.
Despite these obstacles, Mr. Opio reassures the public that the district remains steadfast in its commitment to producing accurate census results. He acknowledges the need for immediate interventions to overcome the challenges posed by the flooding and bridge collapses, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts to mitigate the impact on the community.
As Kapelebyong District navigates through these trying times, the call for support and solidarity from both local authorities and external stakeholders becomes increasingly urgent to restore normalcy and ensure the well-being of its residents.
