Katakwi; Geofrey Omolo, the LC5 of Katakwi District, is not your average politician. Born in 1980 raised in the vibrant community of Getom Sub County, Omolo’s journey from the classroom to the corridors of power is a testament to his unwavering commitment to serving the people.
From humble beginnings at Katakwi Primary School to Alliance High School in Soroti, Omolo’s educational path was marked by determination and resilience. Despite financial hurdles forcing him to withdraw from Uganda Christian University, Mukono, he didn’t let setbacks define him. Instead, he pursued a diploma in microfinance at Uganda Cooperative College Kigumba and is currently on the brink of completing a degree in Public Administration and Management at Uganda Christian University (UCU).
Omolo’s professional journey began in the classroom, teaching secondary students before delving into microfinance. However, it was his passion for community service that propelled him into the political arena.
In 2016, Omolo made his first foray into politics, contesting for the position of District Councillor, unsuccessfully. Undeterred, he persisted, and in 2018, he clinched victory as LC3, followed by another triumph in 2021 when he secured the coveted position of LC5.
But Omolo’s political aspirations go beyond titles and accolades. He advocates for a politics of integrity and respect, emphasizing the need for civil discourse. “Politics is a complex game,” he states, “but divisiveness only breeds enmity. We must promote our messages without disparaging others.”
Driven by his faith and commitment to service, Omolo remains steadfast in his mission to improve the lives of those around him. “I firmly believe in facing challenges with a positive attitude,” he affirms, “always striving to make a difference in my community.”
As Katakwi District prepares for the next political cycle, Omolo’s message resonates as a call to action for unity and progress. His dedication to civil politics and community service sets a shining example for leaders everywhere.
