IGANGA: The Seventh Day Adventist Church in East and Central African Division (ECD) marked a significant moment with the inauguration of Busoga Diocese in Eastern Uganda.
The decision to restructure administrative entities within the Uganda Union, including the creation of Busoga Diocese, was made by the Executive Committee of ECD in Nairobi, Kenya.In a colorful ceremony in Nawansinga village, Iganga district, Pastor Jimmy Kajura became the first bishop of Busoga Diocese.
Vice President Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo, representing President Yoweri Museveni, expressed gratitude to the House of Bishops for elevating Bishop Kajura.
President Museveni commended Pastor Jeremiah Alisengawa’s service in the Eastern Uganda Diocese and praised the SDA fraternity for establishing Busoga Field.
Emphasizing unity, President Museveni called for collaboration in combating oppression, marginalization, and corruption, urging the church to address both spiritual and socio-economic needs.
Encouraging partnership, President Museveni outlined government initiatives such as the Emyooga program and Parish Development Model to eradicate poverty, stressing the importance of transitioning to commercial agriculture.
President Museveni’s call for unity resonated as he urged believers in the Busoga Field to work with Bishop Kajura for spiritual growth and socio-economic transformation.To support the inauguration, President Museveni contributed Sh30m towards expenses, demonstrating government commitment.
Minister for the Presidency Milly Babalanda congratulated Bishop Kajura and urged him to lead efforts in uplifting Busoga from poverty.The inauguration of Busoga SDA Diocese symbolizes a new chapter in the church’s history, emphasizing holistic ministry and community development in Eastern Uganda.
