Following the enormous outcry from the community of Soroti city and beyond over the brown water discharged by their taps, the authorities have laid off fears asserting the water safety.
Now the piped water fetched from the River of Awoja found between the districts of Soroti and Ngora, has been constantly brown for several weeks pulling the attention of the entire public with many residents running away from consuming the water domestically in fear for their lives.
Authorities have today voiced their position insisting that the water is secure and 100% safe for domestic use.
Mr. Ebwaat Peter the Area Manager National Water and Sewerage Corporation Soroti Area admits that river was stagnated by the flashy water destined from the outer parts of the region specifically, Karamoja and Sebei, however the matter was immediately addressed by wholesomely treating the water.
“As a government entity serving to ensure clean and safe water amongst the consumers, we are confident on the quality of water supplied to the population because our operational team thoroughly inspected every water delivered through pipe system” he said
Adding, “it is true that floody water changed the normal color of the water flowing in the pipes, our team ensured that the water is consequently treated in favor of our clients”
Awoja River mainly receives it’s water from Lake Bisina and Opeta hence serving piped water to over 8000 home states currying the population of approximately 50,000 people from Soroti City and the districts of Soroti, Kaberamaido, Amuria and Ngora.
