Frustration is mounting in Amolatar district as residents grapple with worsening service delivery issues, compounded by the perceived lack of engagement from their elected representatives. The locals are demanding greater accountability from their Members of Parliament, who they feel have abandoned them.
During the 2021 elections, voters in Amolatar district elected Hon. Dr. Agnes Atim Apea as Woman MP, Hon. James Olobo Dubai for Kioga North, and Moses Junior Okot Bitek for Kioga County Constituency. However, residents now express disappointment, citing challenges such as poor road infrastructure, inadequate healthcare, and limited educational facilities.
“Our MPs have just disappeared,” said Tommy Okello, a constituent. Selestino Okello of Inomo Cell, Inomo Ward, Amolatar Town Council, accused their MPs of abandoning them and failing to honor their 2021 campaign promises. Francis Okidi, a resident of Akwon sub-county, Kioga North Constituency, stated that they had raised their concerns several times with their MPs, but no action was taken.
The constituents’ pressing issues include impassable roads, limited access to safe drinking water, and inadequate healthcare facilities. As MPs are expected to represent their constituents’ views, bring matters of national concern to the attention of Ministers, and oversee government projects, the residents of Amolatar feel their MPs are falling short.
The residents are now urging their MPs to take action and deliver on their promises or give others a chance to serve. The question remains: will their voices be heard?
