Despite political setbacks, Teddy Acham, the indefatigable Presidential Mobilizer for the Teso Sub-Region, has emerged even stronger, vowing to win over hardened opposition figures and rekindle grassroots support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Addressing a crowd of religious and political leaders at a fundraising event for the construction of the Pentecostal Assemblies of God Cathedral at Soroti Sports Ground on Saturday, Acham made it clear that her allegiance to the Head of State is unwavering, despite losing the recent NRM grassroots elections, where she had contested for the Elderly Chairperson position.
“Losing a position in the party structure will never silence my voice in supporting President Museveni. I was appointed by the President himself, and I will continue to mobilize for him with actions, not just words,” Acham boldly declared.
Her firm stance comes just days after National Resistance Movement (NRM) Vice Chairman for Eastern Region, Capt. Mike Mukula, took to his X-account (formerly Twitter) to celebrate her electoral loss, a move many have interpreted as politically vindictive.
Acham accused Mukula and his allies of undermining her efforts, particularly since she pledged her support to David Calvin Ecodu, an emerging force vying for the Central Executive Committee (CEC) seat.
“Mukula is only fighting me because I’ve refused to praise his divisive leadership, which is crippling NRM’s popularity in the region. I chose to support Calvin Ecodu because he brings new energy, integrity, and grassroots connection that the party desperately needs,” she emphasized.
In what appears to be a strategic counter-offensive, Acham has shifted her political focus to engage key opposition figures in the region, a bold approach she says is already yielding results. Among her targets are FDC stalwarts Moses Attan Okia and Soroti City Woman MP Joan Alobo Achom.
“This young daughter of mine, Joan Alobo, is a very hardworking leader. I have identified her potential, and I am working closely with her to bring her closer to the NRM and help her understand the party’s ideology,” Acham stated.
She added that her method of engaging opposition leaders is not betrayal, but a visionary strategy. “I’m not siding with them. I’m simply using a method they understand, winning hearts, not fighting wars. They are just now beginning to see the good side of President Museveni, which they were never exposed to.”
Acham’s remarks struck a chord during the high-profile event, where her political ally Calvin Ecodu pledged UGX 30 million towards the cathedral construction. He was joined by none other than MP Joan Alobo, who contributed UGX 3 million, signaling a possible softening of stance and hinting at future political realignment.
In her closing remarks, Acham called on fellow NRM leaders to embrace democratic principles and internal reform. “Supporting Calvin Ecodu is not betrayal, it’s a step towards reinvigorating the NRM and ensuring President Museveni’s legacy lives on through true servant leadership.”
As the political landscape in Teso continues to evolve, Teddy Acham’s unrelenting mobilization even in the face of internal party friction, may just be the spark NRM needs to reclaim and consolidate its dominance in the region.
