The Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) terrorists struck Ndimo village in Mambasa territory, Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), on Friday, March 29, 2024. The assault resulted in the loss of at least eight innocent lives, including five pygmies, further amplifying the distressing toll of violence in the region.
Mambasa Territory, situated within the Ituri Province of the DRC, has long been a hotspot for conflict, with various armed groups vying for dominance over land and resources. Among these groups, the ADF stands out as one of the most formidable, with ties to the Islamic State organization.
Originating as a Ugandan rebel coalition in 1995, the ADF has since expanded its operations into the eastern DRC, leaving a trail of death and destruction in its wake. Despite joint military efforts by Ugandan and Congolese forces to eradicate the ADF, the group’s resilience persists, posing a grave threat to civilians in the region.
Just a month ago, suspected ADF militants unleashed terror in Mayimoya, Beni territory, claiming the lives of eight individuals, including three women. These recurring attacks underscore the urgent need for concerted international efforts to address the root causes of violence and instability in the Eastern DRC, ensuring the protection of vulnerable communities from further harm.
