Sarah Eperu, renowned as the iron lady of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party, has succumbed to illness. Despite her tough-as-nails persona, Eperu had been battling health issues for some time before her demise.
Following a defeat in Ngora elections, Eperu stepped back from active politics, diverting her attention elsewhere. However, her imprint on the FDC remained indelible.
Eperu breathed her last at Life Link Hospital in Kyaliwajjala yesterday, leaving behind a void in the political realm she once dominated.
Former FDC president Kizza Besigye lamented her loss, acknowledging her as a formidable leader. “Just been given the very sad news of the passing of our veteran political activist Sarah Eperu. Devastating,” Besigye shared on social media.
Eperu’s influence extended beyond politics; she served as the former spokesperson of the FDC women’s league and chaired Kapir County constituency in Ngora District until her demise.
In a straightforward statement, the FDC mourned Eperu’s passing, recognizing her unwavering commitment to the party’s cause. “It is with heavy hearts we announce the untimely passing of our comrade and dedicated member of the party, Sarah Eperu,” the party conveyed.
As the FDC and the political community reel from this loss, Eperu’s ironclad character and relentless pursuit of change will continue to leave an indomitable mark on the landscape of Ugandan politics.
