Authorities in Arua City’s Central Division have taken decisive action against bus companies without designated terminals. On Tuesday, 26 November 2024, the division began locking the buses of companies that failed to comply with a 14-day ultimatum to establish proper terminals.
The enforcement operation follows a resolution made during a meeting held on 6 November 2024 in the office of Hon. Khemis Muzaid, Mayor of Arua Central Division.
In a one-page letter signed by Mr. Drakuma Malik, the Town Clerk for Central Division, and addressed to all bus companies operating within the city, the festive season was cited as a key reason for the crackdown. The letter highlighted the need to decongest city roads by restricting street parking.
The division acknowledged that only Zawadi Bus Company, Nile Star Bus Company, and Baby Coach Bus Company currently have proper terminals in the city. On Tuesday morning, enforcement teams began locking buses belonging to companies without terminals.
However, the letter did not specify alternative land or locations that could be used by bus companies to establish terminals, raising concerns about how the directive will be implemented during the busy holiday season.
