Arua City, West Nile; Residents of Arua City are preparing to welcome President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the Ezama Ham Mizamil Thanksgiving Ceremony. On Thursday, May 23, 2024, over 1,000 people marched in a procession through Arua City to demonstrate their excitement and support for the upcoming event.
The Thanksgiving ceremony, scheduled for June 8, 2024, aims to express gratitude to President Museveni for his appointments, developments, and services provided in the West Nile region.
Event coordinator Draku Aziz assured the public of their readiness and thorough preparations to ensure the success of the ceremony. He mentioned that numerous groups and associations from various districts have confirmed their attendance. Aziz also expressed appreciation for the positive collaboration and coordination from various government departments in organizing the event.
Lemeriga Fadhil, the regional spokesperson for the Democratic Party (DP), voiced his concerns about what he perceives as unequal treatment of people in the West Nile region. He plans to present a memorandum to President Museveni during the event on June 8, 2024.
Mr. Adomati Dickson, the former first deputy RCC in Central Division, Arua City, who was removed from his position on March 23, 2022, under unclear circumstances, commented on the regional internal conflicts. He expressed hope for the success of the Thanksgiving event.
Mr. Ezama Ham Mizamil, the Central Division Deputy RCC of Arua City, called for unity among the people of the West Nile region. He assured the public that he is not contesting any political position in the 2026 general elections.
The Central Organizing Committee (COC) for the Thanksgiving ceremony expects to mobilize over 10,000 attendees for the event, where President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will be the guest of honor.
