Arua District, 23 November 2024
The Acting District Health Officer (DHO) for Arua District, Dr. Paul Bishop Drileba, was tragically killed on Saturday, 23 November 2024, in a violent land conflict.
Reports indicate that Dr. Drileba had gone with a team of surveyors to Ojibari village, Ajia Sub-county, Arua District, to survey a piece of land he had purchased. While on site, the group was ambushed by unidentified attackers armed with pangas. The attackers brutally struck Dr. Drileba from behind, targeting his neck, back, and hips, fatally injuring him.

The surveyors who accompanied Dr. Drileba reportedly managed to escape by abandoning their equipment and fleeing the scene.
As of the time of this report, Dr. Drileba’s body has been taken to Arua Regional Referral Hospital for further arrangements.
Arua District has increasingly become a hotspot for violent land-related conflicts, including cases of murder, arson, and assault. This latest incident underscores the urgent need for intervention to address the growing insecurity in the region.
