Augustine Otuko Calls On The Katakwi Electorates To Desist From Violent Politics, Warns Minister Ogwang.

As Uganda’s politics heats up, those eyeing new terms are getting back on the ground, closer to the electorates of their respective constituencies, with many making principled vows to the voters.

In the case of Katakwi District, particularly Ngariam County, the race is anticipated to be tighter as it is difficult to predict the fate of the vocal Education Minister, Peter Ogwang, who will be vying for his third term in the National Assembly.

Ogwang has been accused multiple times of causing chaos in Katakwi using state apparatus during past elections.

Augustine Otuko, the former aspirant for the Ngariam County seat and now the Private Secretary to the President in charge of political affairs, has described Ogwang as the chaotic figure in the clan who should be dismissed by the elders immediately for the sake of a peaceful community.

He says that Mr. Peter Ogwang is known for intimidating voters and inciting violence during election time, while attempting to position himself as a small god in Katakwi.

Speaking to the electorates of Ngariam earlier this week, Otuko stated, “We are going to neutralize him and ensure a peaceful Katakwi because both of us serve the interests of the mighty NRM Party, which has clear principles and strategic plans centered on peace and stability.”

“Now that Katakwi has a hardworking and devoted Vice President, we want to see if he dares to raise his nose again,” he added.

While advocating for calm ahead of the 2026 elections, Otuko emphasized the need for a non-violent campaign in Katakwi.

“I appeal to my dear people of Ngariam, especially the youth, to desist from cheap politics and focus on peace-building and wealth creation.”

Otuko is one of those eyeing the Ngariam County seat, along with his colleague Dan Mulalu, as they prepare to challenge the incumbent Peter Ogwang, currently the State Minister for Education in charge of Sports.
