Kotido, Uganda: In a stern warning issued during a press briefing held at the district headquarters, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Kotido, Charles Ichogor, has announced plans to arrest parents who fail to send their children to school.
Ichogor’s ultimatum comes as part of a broader effort to improve education outcomes in the district, which has struggled with low enrollment rates and high dropout rates in recent years.
Ichogor said as govt they will use the signed Education Ordinance to arrest and prosecute culprits
“We cannot afford to have our children idling at home in kraals and grazing while their peers are in school,” Ichogor said. “As a district, we are committed to providing quality education to all our children, and we will not tolerate any parent who fails to take their child’s education seriously.”
“we shall use the right abuse act of the rights of children” said Ichogor
In addition to his warning to parents, Ichogor also urged young people in the district to acquire skills through vocational training programs.
“We have a number of skilling institutes in the region that offer training in various fields, including agriculture, construction, and ICT,” Ichogor said. “I urge all our karachuna to take advantage of these opportunities to acquire skills that will enable them to compete in the job market.”
Ichogor also encouraged parents not to sell food, highlighting the importance of food security and sustainable livelihoods.
“Food security is a critical issue in our district, and we must do everything we can to ensure that our people have access to nutritious food by practising double production,” Ichogor said. “I urge all our farmers to focus on producing food for consumption, rather than just for sale.”
In his concluding remarks, Ichogor emphasized the importance of social economic transformation in the district, and urged all stakeholders to work together to achieve this goal.
“We have a lot of work to do to transform our district economically and socially,” Ichogor said. “But I am confident that if we work together, we can achieve great things and improve the lives of our people.”
The RDC Ichogor also vowed to fight corruption by arresting all village thieves who steal money from govt programs eg PDM , EMYOOGA AND YLP
