The unbearable situation in Angodingod Primary School leaves anyone wondering on how the School produces great number of first graders in the entire district of Katakwi.
At the entrance to the School, the organized noice of children welcome you as they repeat after their teachers in chorus, while attentively seated on the bare ground for classes under the trees.
The only available class rooms have been spared for toddlers in Primary two and three, the rest have to sit on the bare ground and attend to their teachers during lesson times.
Located in Akisim Parish – Eastwards of Angodingod Sub – County in Toroma County, a UPE school for the past two years has consistently produced the best PLE results during both the year 2023 and 2022.
Having shocked the entire district by passing 28 candidates in Division one and 141 in the second grade during the recent 2023 PLE, teachers deprive lack of class rooms for the overwhelming population.
Currently, the School has the enrolment of 1,709 pupils with more admissions recorded on daily basis.
Such massive numbers have been attracted by the good performance of the School according to the Head teacher Mr. Julius Okwaput.
“Lack of class rooms has pushed us to conduct four classes from the tree shades, classes get interrupted during unfriendly weather, especially when the rains fall, we have no choice but to let them go and we call it a day”, he said.
Adding, ”Concerned parents have attempted to raise a simple structure using timber for their children to study under however it has only accommodated the P.7 candidates, those in P.6, P.4, P.7 and P.5 conduct classes under a few available trees”.
The School faces shortage of furniture for both pupils and staff as they plead to government for urgent intervention.
Okwaput pledges that if government address such pressing needs, then his committed staff has the capability of doubling the performance.
According to him the 2023 PLE results are a great improvement having tripled the previous truck where they recorded 8 candidates in first grade and 48 in second grade.
