Bishop Joseph Eciru Oliach of the Soroti Catholic Diocese has consecrated the new St. Peter Canisius church in Agule Omiinya, Toroma Catholic Parish, Katakwi district. The consecration ceremony, attended by thousands of Christians, was a momentous occasion, with Bishop Eciru urging the congregation to rejoice and consecrate the new church for service and holy use .
During the Mass, Bishop Eciru prayed for God’s guidance and empowerment, seeking blessings for the new church and its congregation. He also prayed for the outpouring of prayer, praise, and professions of faith, as well as the joining of men and women in marriage and the celebration of death and resurrection.
The Vice President, Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo, who attended the ceremony, assured the faithful that the government will maintain peace and security, ensuring Ugandans can enjoy their freedoms, including freedom of worship. She also emphasized the importance of embracing government programs, such as the Parish Development Model, Emyooga, and Youth Livelihood Programs, to access cheap credit and overcome poverty.
Additionally, Alupo revealed plans for infrastructure development, including the construction of the Toroma-Agule road and the renovation of Katakwi General Hospital, which will feature modern facilities, including an accident and emergency unit, X-ray and imaging facilities, and doctors’ accommodations.
The consecration ceremony also saw six couples tie the knot, and Bishop Eciru appointed Fr. Frederick Obore and Fr. Edmund Okella to oversee the new church.
