The Chief Editor of the Kumi based radio station Continental 94.7 FM Mr. Emmanuel Odele confirmed to the patriots that by 12:00 pm Saturday 19th August, the employees went on strike and switched off the radio.
It is reported that employees laid down their tools after a stiff disagreement with the proprietor Ms. Winfred Adio accusing her of dodging to clear their salary areas that had over accumulated to shs 42 Million since July 2021.
Staff members had also drugged their boss Winifred Adiyo to Kumi Central Police Station for a mediation attempt before shutting down the radio after she became stubborn.
They had also filed a complaint to the offices of labor claiming their payments and the NSSF arrears also pending 16 months clearance to their accounts.

Elton Edeket the station Manager informed our newsroom in a phone call interviews that by the time he came on board, the radio had incurred huge debts including rent of Shs. 32 Million demanded by the land lord “Church of Uganda Kumi diocese” that had earlier issued serious warnings.
“Our staff now demand the radio an accumulated areas of Shs 42 Million that we have conditioned the proprietor to clear up to nil balances before connecting the radio back. We have teamed up with the Bishop of Kumi diocese to switch the radio off air and have it locked for a moment”, he said.

John Bosco Ojojo a reporter, also a radio presenter accuses Adiyo for being uncooperative and caring less about her radio staff.
“Whenever any of us calls her for an emergency at the radio station, she will always ignore our calls, we have suffered enough, on saturday we traveled up to Soroti at her home to meet her over the challenges we are facing as her staff, instead she locked us out of her gate. that is why we have also resorted to switch off the radio”, Ojojo said.

Our efforts to get the comment from the Bishop of Kumi Diocese, his grace Michael Esakan Okwii went futile as his phone was switched off however, confidential sources from his office reliably informed us that the Bishop instructed the radio’s staff to close the radio and have the keys delivered to his office.
“Ms. Adityo has been dodging to meet the bishop, neither receiving his phone calls and this has not been going well with the diocese. Apparently the bishop is in possession of the keys to the radio station until the rent dues are cleared”, the person whose identity has been withheld on request told this website on a phone call.
Our efforts to as well get a comment from the proprietor Ms. Winifred Adiyo did not bare fruits as no one picked a phone call.
