The Chairman for Serere District Local Government and former Legislator for Serere County has officially announced his return to Soroti’s political arena, confirming his bid for the mayoral seat in 2026.
Once the LC V Chairman for the Mother Soroti District, the politician has successfully filed and returned his interest forms to the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Party headquarters in Najanankumbi last week. This indicates he is now comfortably awaiting nomination for the FDC party flagship.
Ochola’s significant presence in Ugandan politics has commanded public attention due to his boldness, opposition to bad governance, and fight against corruption for over two decades.
The versatile politician now aims to reduce corruption and ensure value for taxpayers’ money among public officers.
“I am interested in changing the current image of Soroti as the dirtiest young city in Uganda, which has the lowest local reflections once I assume office as mayor,” he stated.
He added, “I am disturbed by the encroachment on open green spaces and the alarming rate of land grabbing, which has rapidly concerned the public.”
Ochola notes that as a former leader who left Soroti with order and integrity, he is aggrieved by the current state of affairs in the Teso regional capital city.
In his mayoral bid, Ochola will face the vocal Paul Omer, the current Soroti East Division Mayor, and the incumbent Hon. Joshua Edogu, who has been repeatedly accused of corruption and hypocrisy towards the electorate.
