Peter Edeku Edopu, the Executive Director of Peter Edeku Foundation, has challenged the congregation of Ogwolo Churches in Katine Sub County, Soroti District, to work together with church leaders in developing the church.
Edeku, who is also a contender for the Dakabela County MP seat, made the call during a donation ceremony where the foundation handed over 132 maroon iron sheets to the Christians of Ogwolo Church of Uganda and catholic churches The donation is aimed at improving services in the churches.
Mr. Eryau Moses, who is the head of Ibisoi clan where the incumbent Hon. Elotu comes from, declared to his people that he is now supporting Mr. Edeku. He stated that he has already supported his brother Hon. Elotu for two terms and as a clan and community of Ogwolo and Mother Olwelai, they have not benefited from their support. This time around, he is supporting Mr. Edeku because of his rich vision for Dakabela and the visible work he’s doing for the people. He thanked him for always being there for the people of Olwelai and Ogwolo, and working like he is the MP, filling the gap that has been left by the incumbent who always abandons people after every election.
Mr. Eryau appreciated that for the first time his clan and community has benefited from a leader and promised to lead the Edeku campaign to victory in the NRM primaries and final elections with a block vote from his community.
According to Edeku, it is essential for Christians to take the lead in developing the church through cooperation in all activities. He emphasized the importance of unity and collective effort in achieving the church’s goals.
The donation was welcomed by the church leadership and members, who acknowledged that it would help in completing the church structures. Stephen Odiko, the Area Catechist of Ogwolo Catholic Church, expressed his gratitude for the donation, stating that the church leadership had struggled to raise the structure with limited resources.
Joseph Olupot, the Chairperson of the Construction Committee, noted that the construction of the church had taken many years, prompting them to seek external help. Robert Opio, the Sub County Speaker for Katine, encouraged Christians to continue supporting church activities through mini-fundraising and Sunday offerings.
The church leadership noted that over the years, they have requested leaders, including those they supported to go to parliament and other leadership positions, but they have been lied to. They thanked Mr. Edeku for heeding their request and giving them a befitting Christmas gift. They emphasized that finishing the church will transform the landscape of Ogwolo and prayed to God to continue blessing Hon. Edeku’s hands and his heart of giving to the community and the needy.
The women appreciated Edeku’s support to Churches, road construction, education, borehole repairs, basins, mattresses, the sick, weddings, tents, groups, and expectant mothers. They promised to stand by Hon. Edeku, President Museveni, and the NRM party in the coming elections.
Edeku’s call for unity and cooperation resonates with his commitment to community development and empowerment. As a contender for the Dakabela County MP seat, his efforts to support the church and promote unity among Christians are likely to boost his popularity among voters.
With his foundation’s donation, Edeku has demonstrated his willingness to support the community and promote development in the region. As the election season approaches, his commitment to the people of Dakabela County is likely to be a key factor in his campaign.
